PORTFOLIO

Sean Edwin is a storyteller, independent educator, husband and father of three. He is a student of the universal principles of harmony, love, peace, and freedom.

Sean's grandfathers told stories, one through pictures, the other as a journalist. When he was nine, Sean realized he was a child immigrant in a country of immigrants. This sparked his imagination for his own story.

Today he seeks stories of courage and responsibility, fearlessness and community, knowledge and compassion. Stories found in the imagination of our youth and the wisdom of our elders.

The Peace of Spirit... is a transmission.

A response to the forces of evil at reign in the world through the story of nonviolence. The life and work of Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Thich Nhat Hanh, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Dalai Lama, these peacemakers have walked the path of peace, offering a way, in Dr. King’s words, to ‘nonviolent co-existence.’ They have also warned us of our demise without a ‘revolution of values.’

We must expand our view and broaden our perspective to perceive new possibilities and to survive. In exploring what has come before, let us imagine what the future may hold.

A message of peace can be heard for those with ears to hear.

The Peace of Spirit... is transformation.

Introducing and exploring the idea of spiritual transmission as a means of human transformation. Each peacemaker has a moment of transformation that comes from suffering, difficulties, and grace.

This transformation can be understood through a study of discernment, adherence to truth, radical love, interbeing, and a sense of oneness.

Through this study, the nature of the peacemaker’s transformation gives insight into universal principles.

The Peace of Spirit... is personal.

My own life has intersected with these peacemakers in mysterious and magical ways.

My first-born daughter was born on October 2, Gandhi’s birthday.

I later met Dr. Harding, a close colleague of Dr. King, at a Thich Nhat Hanh retreat, and again at a friend’s wedding.

When I traveled to India, without knowing how, I found myself at the southern point of the subcontinent, Kanya Kumari. This is an auspicious place, where some of Gandhi’s ashes rest, where Dr. King once visited, where Swami Vivekananda received his mission.

I am uncertain as to what kind of world my children inherit. Will their light be welcomed in the world, whoever they came here on Earth to be?

When will their melanated skin be acceptable in the world's eyes?
